About Memunat


Memunat is a PhD Candidate at the School of Cybernetics, a software engineer and a data analyst. Memunat has a First Class Honours in computer science and a Masters of Applied Cybernetics. She also enrolled in and graduated from the Product Manager Nanodegree Program, Data Analyst for Enterprise Nanodgree Program, and data foundation nanodegree programs on Udacity.

Memunat loves solving problems and believes that tech solutions can only be effective and inclusive when the gap between local problems and tech expertise is bridged. Memunat is a problem-solver, always seeking out new skills. Memunat has experience both in industry and in academia. She loves to help in building solutions that are safe, trustworthy and inclusive for all at scale. While working as a software engineer in industry, she would spend her free time learning about data science, machine learning, mechanism design, and also volunteered with research communities to solve social problems.

Memunat is a member of the Black in AI, MD4SG, Data Science Africa, Omdena, among others. Memunat is a participant of the 2021 Africa Futures Leadership Series by School of International Futures where she collaborates with African advocates and change-makers across different sectors to reimagine and shape the continent’s future using foresight and African indigenous problem solving techniques.

Her areas of interest are in the engineering and governance of responsible, sustainable and trustworthy AI, data driven, or autonomous systems. She enjoys traveling, exploring and challenging herself.
